Choose how to start
For a spoken film, open Edit Captions through command search (⇧⌘P). You can create and review cues there. If you already have a subtitle file, choose File → Import → Subtitles and select SRT, WebVTT, iTT, or a supported basic CEA-608 SCC file.
Generate a first draft
- Choose the dialogue track and range containing the speech.
- Select the language actually spoken in the recording.
- Check the available speech model before beginning. Availability depends on the language and local speech services.
- Run generation and review the proposed cues.
- Correct names, punctuation, segmentation, and timing before applying the draft.
A muted or silent range cannot provide usable speech captions. If generation gives an empty result, check the input before trying another style.
Review in context
Play each cue with the picture and sound. Aim for readable phrases, natural line breaks, and enough display time. Check gaps and overlaps. Preview any word-by-word style carefully; automatic word timing still needs a human review.
Decide how captions travel
Burn-in puts captions into the image permanently. A subtitle sidecar is a separate file and must be supplied to the player or publishing platform. In the next lesson, choose the intended behavior explicitly.
Keep or discard a pending caption draft deliberately when switching contexts. Save after applying reviewed changes.
