iPhone and iPad keyboard commands

Use the implemented hardware keyboard bindings and choose the right editing context.

Choose a context before pressing a key

With a hardware keyboard connected, tap Media, Viewer, or Timeline to choose the active context. Source and sequence transport follow that focus and the viewer mode. While typing, fields retain ordinary text keys, arrows, and their native Undo/Redo behavior.

These are the bindings implemented by the mobile editor. Mac has a larger catalog and separate reference; do not assume every Mac shortcut exists on iOS. Keyboard behavior can also depend on the keyboard and the active system responder.

Playback and source editing

ActionKey
Play / PauseSpace
Previous / Next FrameLeft / Right arrow
Mark In / Mark OutI / O
Shuttle Reverse / Stop / ForwardJ / K / L
Connect SourceQ
Insert SourceW
Append SourceE
Overwrite SourceD
Split at PlayheadCommand-B
Add MarkerM
Ripple DeleteDelete
Replace with GapShift-Delete

Source stepping follows recorded source pictures; sequence stepping follows sequence frames. Check the viewer before setting marks. Text editing remains text editing: pressing E in a title field should enter a letter, rather than append media.

Projects and history

ActionKey
Save ProjectCommand-S
New ProjectCommand-N
Open ProjectCommand-O
UndoCommand-Z
RedoShift-Command-Z

Finish typing and tap the timeline before using document Undo. A project switch or close can wait for unapplied caption changes, a pending adjustment, or a failed save.

Focus and discovery

ActionKey
Focus MediaCommand-1
Focus TimelineCommand-2
Focus ViewerCommand-3
Toggle InspectorCommand-4

Tools → Commands searches the command catalog and gives reasons for unavailable actions. Touch controls remain available for operations without a keyboard binding. The in-app Keyboard Commands help entry is being moved to this online reference; use this page’s table as the mobile list.
