Add a title over picture
- Put the sequence playhead at the title’s intended start.
- Choose Titles, then an Essentials preset or New Title.
- Select the title clip and open Inspector → Text.
- Replace Title text and tap Save Text.
- Open Font, color, layout and reveal to adjust typography.
- Trim the title’s duration and play its entrance and exit.
Essentials include Cinematic title, Editorial, Lower third, Chapter heading, and End credits. They are editable flat typography. A saved legacy 3D title renders flat; the current tools do not offer a new 3D title workflow.
Use Transform → Show safe-area guides to keep important words inside the canvas. Check the whole title interval, since a readable still frame can become unreadable over moving footage.
Create or import a caption track
Open Titles → Captions, the action bar’s Captions, or Tools → Captions. Select Track, or tap New Caption Track. Enter a language tag such as en-US and tap Save. Track language helps identify delivery variants; it does not translate text.
Use Add Cue at Playhead for a manual cue. Import, Generate and Export → Import Subtitles reads supported subtitle files. Generate from Speech opens the speech-generation review: choose the dialogue track and speech language, generate, review words and boundaries, and apply the captions you intend to keep. Recognition depends on permissions, language availability, and the quality of recorded speech.
Edit and apply one cue
- Tap a cue, or tap Edit Selected Cue.
- Correct Caption cue text.
- Adjust Start (seconds) and End (exclusive seconds). End must be later than Start.
- Review validation messages and the preview.
- Tap Apply to commit the text and timing together.
Unapplied changes identifies a retained draft. Revert discards that draft after the offered confirmation. Apply or Revert before switching cue, track, project, or closing the sheet. Tapping outside a sheet is not an alternative to committing it.
Recover a retained draft
On iOS, unapplied caption text and timing have a recovery record across app relaunch. If the saved cue changed or is unavailable, the editor retains your draft and explains the conflict. Use Copy Draft Text and Timing or Share Draft Text and Timing before Revert if those words must be preserved.
If Draft recovery reports a write failure, use Retry Saving Draft or copy/share the retained text. A recovered draft is not a completed project save; apply it to a valid cue and then confirm the project’s saved state.
Check readability and choose delivery
Review Track checks for timing and readability warnings. Break phrases naturally, correct names and numbers, and listen for clipped words. Automatic captions always need a human review.
Style This Track applies an available caption style to the selected track’s cues. Review the result on your actual canvas. Subtitle sidecars carry text and timing; the project retains styling and animation. For permanent text in the picture, choose burn-in. For editable subtitles at the destination, choose a sidecar in Deliver. Check every language independently.
