Linked picture and sound

Edit related components together and separate them deliberately.

Linked selection helps treat a source’s related picture and sound as a pair. Leave it enabled for straightforward trimming and moving when both should follow the same edit.

Do not confuse linked selection with track targeting or source patching. One describes related components; the others determine where commands act or where incoming components go.

Make a split edit

J-cuts and L-cuts let sound and picture change at different moments while the source remains synchronized. Use the audio edit-offset controls for this purpose and inspect the lead or lag badge on the timeline.

Extending sound needs available source handles. If the recording ends at the visible edge, the app cannot invent additional audio from that source.

Unlink Components separates the relationship deliberately. After independent moves or trims, review synchronization with visible speech or a recognizable action. Save a version before a complicated sound restructuring so you have an explicit timing reference.
