Inspect the scope context
Open Color and choose the scope you need. The scope panel identifies the sampled output, frame time, media representation, and measurement status. Make sure it reflects the image you are judging.
A luma waveform shows encoded brightness against horizontal image position. Other scope views help inspect channel balance or chroma distribution. Switch views according to the problem you are diagnosing.
Compare rather than chase a shape
When matching adjacent shots, compare similar objects and lighting conditions. A night exterior should not have the same waveform distribution as a bright daylight scene. Preserve the intended contrast rather than forcing every shot to fill the same range.
Watch for lost highlight or shadow detail while making adjustments. A scope can reveal channel imbalance that is difficult to see on a small preview.
Understand the measurement
The current scope labels describe encoded full-scale signal, not an IRE or legal-range compliance certification. Statistics exclude transparent pixels and describe sampled pixels. Check the panel’s stated context before using a numerical reading for delivery decisions.
